This is the lockington.me website created 18 July 08 by me, (Niol Lockington, Auckland New Zealand). I was contacted by my hosting service to say the name was available so I decided to grab it with no particular reason in mind. However I am mildly interested in recording the family tree and have included the earlier years here. You may have stumbled upon the site as a result of a Google search. maybe you have the same name and this could be of use to you, or you may be able to add to it. I would welcome any additions, but I don't think it would be wise to publish "new generations" on the web due to identity stealing etc. Individual relatives may email me at niol@lockington.me and I will add them to my tree and forward info back if I can, to add to their tree. I am not really looking for work though, and will only reply when time and inclination permits. Below is a photo of me at 64, pretending to be James Lockington who came out from Ireland to New Zealand in 1874.
Below the photo are links to various family trees. In many instances we have not established a link. I suppose DNA testing from myself and a perhaps cousin Natoba from Fiji may quickly settle the issue although I have a reluctance in case it proves I am not related which would be a great disappointment. As I fly into Fiji from Auckland during descent the Island of Kadavu appears on the horizon, home of the Fijian Lockingtons, some of whom I have had the pleasure of meeting. It would be painful to learn we were not connected.
The early Lockington location was Sussex England. In 1978, Norman Lockington (Canada) was in England and contacted a Lockington who was a church minister who had informally traced his family back to Ranulph de Loketon who arrived with William the Conqueror in 1066. He knew  many had moved to Ireland. Our first Irish entries list 2 brothers in about 1610 who were associated with the occupation by James I and later became tenant farmers in Ireland. Successive crop failures and famine forced a mass exodus to greener pastures in the mid 1800s and Lockingtons are in Canada, USA. Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand.
